2024-12-11

The selected collections of the Gdansk University of Technology Library are available in the digital library Polona!

This includes all objects restored and digitized as part of the Social Responsibility of Science project implemented in 2022-2024. Prints selected for earlier SON projects - years 2019-2021 and 2021-2023 - are also gradually being added.
Currently, 30 objects are being made available in Polona, within two collections - old prints and collections published between 1801 and 1945. Among the collections are, for example, “Architectonischen Wercken bestehend in allerhand Grund-Haupt-Rissen u. Profilen unterschiedener gebaude” vol. 5 (c. 1729) by J. R. Fäsch, which shows plans and profiles of public buildings and palaces, their facades and architectural details. This work provides an excellent source of knowledge for restorers of historic buildings
and enthusiasts of the history of architectural thought. The three-volume work “Dioptricae”, Ps. 1-3 (1769-1771) by L. Euler, in which the author described the properties of lenses, the construction of the telescope and microscope. On the other hand, an important work for the history of Gdansk and the development of science is the publication of N. M. de Wolf's “Observationes astronomicae factae Dantisci, ab anno 1774 ad annum 1784” (1775). The Gdansk naturalist, astronomer and physician described the meteorological observation post he created, located on Biskupia Górka, and the astronomical instruments it was equipped with.
